Privacy

APAFly is built so your documents never leave your device.

Last updated: October 29, 2026

Your documents

.docx files are read and processed in your browser. They are not uploaded to our servers or to third-party services.

We do not store the content, name or metadata of your files. Closing or reloading the page discards the file.

The APA checker analyses the file in an isolated browser process (Web Worker), without changing it and without opening links or external content. The report is created and downloaded on your device.

The APA formatter applies its changes to a copy in an isolated browser process, analyses it again and lets you download it. Your original file does not change and nothing is sent to any server.

DOI lookups

When you look up a DOI, only that identifier is sent to Crossref’s public API (api.crossref.org) to retrieve the publication details. Nothing else is sent and we do not store your lookups.

If you paste a link without a DOI, we do not visit it or send it to any server: it is only filled into the form.

Your bibliography

The bibliography manager keeps your list only in your browser’s local storage (localStorage), on your device, so you can pick it up when you come back. It is not sent to our servers and we never see it.

It is deleted with the tool’s “Delete all data” button or when you clear your browsing data. No .docx files, documents or lookups are stored.

Your title page

The cover page generator processes your details (title, names, university, course, instructor and date) in your browser and creates the .docx file on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

So you can come back to the page and fix them, they are kept in that tab’s session storage (sessionStorage). They are erased when you close the tab or with the tool’s “Clear data” button.

Accounts, cookies and analytics

There are no accounts and no sign-up. We currently use no cookies, analytics or advertising.

If we add any of these in the future, we will update this page first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Future features

If a feature ever needs to send content to a server, it will be optional, clearly flagged before you use it, and will ask for your consent.
