Frequently asked questions
Is APAFly free?
Yes. All six tools will be free and will need no sign-up.
Are my documents uploaded to a server?
No. The Word tools will process .docx files inside your browser. Converting a DOI will only look up the identifier, never your document.
Which edition of APA does it follow?
The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th edition (2020).
Will it match my university’s guidelines?
APAFly follows standard APA 7. Some universities adjust details such as margins or the title page; if your instructor or institution asks for something different, follow their guidance.
What is the difference between a citation and a reference?
An in-text citation is the short mention, such as (Smith, 2020). A reference is the full entry in your reference list, with author, date, title and source.
When will the tools be available?
We release them in stages. Each tool page shows whether it works yet or is still in progress.
